Basic Police Officer Training
The Basic Training Programme for Police Officers at Umeå University was established in the fall of 2000.
Four semesters later, on the 4th of June 2002, the first group of police students at Umeå University graduated from Umeå University
The basic Police Training Programme at Umeå University is commissioned by the Board of Swedish National Police (swe: Rikspolisstyrelsen, RPS) and its organized under the Faculty of Social Science. This meaning that the education has the two above mentioned responsible authorities as its principals. Where the Board of Swedish National Police (RPS) becomes the client, the Faculty of Social Science is the supplier of the education.
In accordance to this organizational plan, Umeå University has the long-term overall responsibility for implementation of the training programme, recruitment of teachers, establishment of an administrative and pedagogical core of staff and the layout of the programme.
Today the Basic Training Programme for Police Officers has around 400 students spread out over four semesters.
The University provides with experienced academical lecturers from various departments in subjects included in the Police Training Programme;
The Swedish Police Organization provides with experienced special trained police to teach subjects adjacent to the occupation, as Forensic Medicine, Traffic et cetera. Mainly all teachers contracted from the Swedish Police has the organizational grade of Detective Chief Inspectors (DCI).
